Why Some Christians Don’t Celebrate Christmas

When I wrote the first edition on this subject twenty years ago, I covered the historical evidence of Christmas and its relevance to bible believers of the past and present. Lately, I have been considering the more biblical aspects of the traditions and customs associated with it, focusing on the logical and scriptural reasons of why there is not a single reference in the bible referring to an exact date of the birth of Christ. If the word of God revealed an exact date, and the day was December 25th, then it would forever satisfy our spirit and consciences that at least the date was right and worthy of some celebratory recognition. No doubt, there are offensive customs and traditional errors that would be need to be dealt with, but at least the foundational reason of recognition of such a date would be founded in truth. All evidence reveals the date and the customs are totally contrary to history and are missing from the bible. It is only natural for bible believers whose motto is “sola scriptura” (only scriptures) to have great concern for this subject and to search out the truth for themselves in the word of God. The purpose of this pamphlet is to stir up the mind and spirit of professing believers to investigate for themselves whether or not celebrating Christmas is pleasing to God.

We are not given the liberty by God to associate our recognition of him as we choose, but rather as he has revealed his pleasure in, and surely not in behavior that exposes the church’s disobedience to the commandments given in 2 Corinthians 6:15-16 and John 4:24. Having only a mandate from the church of Rome, which is an enemy to the true church of God, can only add to the quandary in the minds of those who care to fulfill the scripture: “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Two major issues in particular were at the heart of the conflicts that troubled many of the saints during the 2nd and 4th centuries of Christianity. The first was the Easter controversy of the second century which divided the churches, because of the Roman church realigning the date of the Jewish Passover and of the Resurrection, by changing its observance from a lunar to a solar calendar. This changed the Passover observance to be more readily adapted to the heathen customs of their Easter observances. This “liberty” of the Church of Rome opened the door to greater corruptions within the celebration of the resurrection. By the year 350 AD, the Roman Church had added many variations of their “Easter” celebration that had far exceeded the Passover that was celebrated by the saints after Christ rose from the dead. The Easter that Herod celebrated in Acts 12 wasn’t in recognition of Christ’s resurrection, because that Easter was being celebrated during the days of unleavened bread, which occurred after the Passover! Easter was celebrated by the heathen and Romans long before Christ was ever born. Just look at the customs associated with Easter today and tell me what egg hunts and baby chicks and bunny rabbits have to do with the Passover. It’s a lamb in one, images of fertility creatures in the other.

By 350 AD the Pope was interjecting heathen customs and traditions to arbitrate the date of Christ birth. Unlike the controversary of Easter which could be analyzed through scripture, the controversy of Christ’s birth was much more difficult, having no bible based “fixed” date like the Passover which had a revealed date; the 14th day of the first month of the Jewish year (Exodus 12). The Passover was celebrated every year on the same day and month for 1500 years. The birth of the Messiah on the other hand was not revealed as such. But, the hierarchy of the Roman church was determined in its ecclesiastical expansion of the heathen’s “conversion” to facilitate their transition into “Christianity” through the means of traditional accommodations, (the adoption of their heathen custom and adapting them into their liturgy). Their “conversions” would put them into “church” membership and at the same time accept the church’s liturgy (which is the proscribed rites of worship including the Mass) and its authority. In so doing, they violated the conscience of the true saints of God and plain commandments of the word of God, further separating themselves from the scriptures and true church of God.

In the Catholic Church’s efforts of converting the heathen to Christianity through these compromises, they expanded the membership of the Catholic Church, they also violated the scriptural commandments against spiritual and social assimilation in the worship of God (2 Corinthians 6:14-18). In their desires of gaining the submission to papal authority and expansion of the “Church,” Rome thought, by the integration of the gods of nature and characters of mythological origin (that were interpreted by the Catholic Church to be only perversions of the real God), they hoped they would gain the acceptance of the heathen. In reality, this uniting of the heathens’ gods and customs (1 Corinthians 10:20) rather transformed the Catholic liturgy into a more heathenistic form. Either in ignorance or by design, uniting Christ with the customs of the heathen they drew “the trojan horse” of the devil’s deception into their camp and failed to heed the warning of 2 Corinthians 11:3-4. Then, by these seeds of corruption, brought forth ¬¬¬¬another Christianity that preaches another Jesus, and has another spirit, and promotes another gospel. Its ministers are no longer the ministers of Christ, they are the ministers of the god of this world, the Devil himself! (2 Corinthians 11:13-15)

It is evident by the 4th century the Roman Catholic church, under the leadership of the Pope, has transferred the Pontifex Maximus of pagan Rome into the Pontifex Maximus of papal Rome, and has ushered in the beginning of an era that will end up in the worship of the devil as God (2 Thessalonians 2; Revelation 17). “A little leaven, leaveneth the whole lump” (1 Corinthians 5:6; Galatians5:9; Matthew 13:33). In the Catholic Church’s desire for religious conquest, it has had no problem with making concord with Christ and Belial, or any other god. In its very inception under Constantine the Great, the Catholic Church was born to unify spiritual and cultural differences and unite them under one authority, that being the ruler himself, who claimed the title of Pontifex Maximus as well as Ceasar of Rome. Constantine had no problem with assimilating heathen customs with “the Church,” he had celebrated them his whole life! (See church history of Constantine and the Council of Nicaea 325 AD.) The scriptures are very plain on revealing the sources of the heathen’s gods (1 Corinthians 10:20), and who is the author of the conflicting personages of Jesus Christ. The Jesus of Rome and that of the scriptures are diametrically different and the reason why is explained in detail by Paul in 2 Corinthians 11:1-4, 11-15. It’s time to realize, my beloved brothers and sisters, that the devil has formed a church, too. Paul revealed its foundation in 2 Corinthians 11 and John the Apostle told us of her identity and location of her hierarchy in Revelation 17. Our Lord has commanded us to come out of her in no uncertain terms (Revelation 18:4-7), for her judgement is coming and her damnation sure! Let us no longer drink of her cup of deceptions, and let us live in separation from her lies and deceitful religion.

The heathen’s customs and traditions were steeped not only in dark superstitions, but also by the direction of the Devil himself to change the truth of God into a lie, that the creature might be worshipped and served more than the Creator, that in the end his true desire will be made manifest; that he might be worshipped and served as God (Isaiah 14:4-17; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12; Revelation 13:1-18). Note: The devil, the false prophet and the antichrist are all referred to as BEASTS! It was an easily fitted means to further the “conversion movement” of the Catholic Church because the scriptures have no greater authority in Catholicism than tradition, for they are both determined by councils and the interpretations given by them. By placing tradition and scriptures on the same level of authority it facilitates in the ‘transforming” process of both religious and social interests. “True” bible believers have been warned against the acceptance of the customs of this present evil world, its traditions, and religious mandates by ungodly groups of self-elevated religious leaders who desire to have dominion over all faiths’. By establishing a date to match its liturgy, the Catholic Church has elevated itself to be the source of truth, as to the time and manner of the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, even if it is not supported by the bible.

Yet, it seems implausible the date of such a historical event as evidenced even by angel’s announcements (Luke 2:8-14), would not be revealed either in the scriptures or church history! Surely, God doesn’t expect us to go to the heathen, who are worshipping Devils to find the “birthdate” of his only begotten son! Do you think that the devil isn’t concerned about this matter? Oh, I’ll assure you, my beloved brethren, he is most concerned! He is after world dominance over this matter of how and who we worship! Don’t think for one moment that that accursed religious institution that he formed in the 4th century (Galatians 1:6-9) isn’t going to be used to divert the attention away from “glory to God in the highest” to “glory to god of this world!” He has an agenda to fill in his evil heart and he is going to use every means available to accomplish it. Just be honest, brethren, and look around you and tell me where you find the real truth about the birth of Jesus Christ as found in Luke 2. It has been totally perverted both secularly and spiritually by the incorporation of all or part of the heathen customs and vanities that God came to save us from by bringing the true light of life into this world. “Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein: Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways. Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness. And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.” (Acts 14:15-18)

My brethren, Jezebel is still alive and well in spirit (Revelation 2:20-23) and is still teaching and seducing God’s servants to commit fornication and eat things sacrificed to idols! It will be admitted though, that of all the people that have ever been born on the earth since creation, no one has ever been born so expectantly important or has had more influence over so many generations since his birth, as the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. And yet, the scriptures seem to be silent over the issue of the actual date. We can compare scripture with scripture (Luke 1:5 and 1 Chronicles 24:7-19), to conclude that his birth is around the time of the Feast of Tabernacles, and we know conclusively that his crucifixion took place on fourteenth day of Nisan on the Hebrew calendar and his ministry was three and half years according to the Passovers given in the gospel of John and the ninth chapter of the book of Daniel, thus pointing to a birth around September/October on our calendar, which also would coincide with the Feast of Tabernacles on the Jewish calendar. But the Lord still has left the most studious of the saints without knowing THE ABSOLUTE DAY! Surely God had a reason for this anomaly.

I am reminded of the verse in Proverbs 25:2, “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.” Let us then search this matter out, and go to the source from which it derived, the Word of God. We will begin with the verses that support why the answer is not to be found in the worship of the heathen and their gods through the signs of nature and astrological calculations. Even though these were given by God for the divine purpose of revealing that there is a God, it will not reveal this matter we are considering. The heavens and nature declare there is a God of creation (Psalm 19) and nature does as well (Romans 1:20). When God becomes incarnate though, it is a totally different matter. Therefore, let us go first to the verses that will emphasize God’s displeasure in integrating the heathens’ errors in worshipping the signs of nature and the host of heaven as gods, and not knowing the God who created nature and the heavens. These verses will reveal to worship God in truth can only come by revelation from God himself, and God has revealed the means he has chosen: THE SCRIPTURES (2 Timothy 3:16).

We will begin our study with Jeremiah 10:2-6, “Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: For one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not, they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good. Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.”

Do you see the double application of pagan and modern customs of the tree associated with the idol? Do you see how this passage also reveals how the heathen get their customs of worship from their association with nature and astrology? Remember what God warned Israel of when they were about to enter into the promised land, concerning images and “likenesses” of things created to represent him (Deuteronomy 4:15-20, 23-28)? Paul also spoke of how the heathen changed the glory of God into idolatry by transforming the Glory of the person of God into the images of the creatures he had created, thus receiving his wrath, rather than his approval in their worship of him (Romans 1:18-32).

“Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar? What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing? But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and the table of devils. Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?” (1 Corinthians 10:18) Notice how Paul uses these verses to show us that by worshipping God with the integration of heathenistic practices provokes the Lord to jealousy, in no way can you say that it pleases him!

This leads us to 2 Corinthians: “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with the idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” (2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1)

Let’s be honest to ourselves, brethren, decorating of trees, wreaths, candles, elaborate decorations, and all these activities, did not come from instruction of the bible. You really think this honors God? Here’s a good example of what I witnessed last night when traveling. I passed by multitudes of houses and it was surprising how many of them were a true example of these verses. I saw several houses and lawns that were elaborately decorated. Several of them caught my attention in particular. Santa Claus on the roof top with his sleigh and reindeer and on the lawn Frosty the Snowman, decorated trees, and animated animals and in the midst of it all, a nativity scene with three kings, shepherds, and cattle standing around a manger depicting Mary and Joseph with the Christ child. What a conglomeration of confusion! As a Christian how can this not offend you? But can’t you see that this as an illustration to why God would be offended and provoked to jealousy? These things weren’t found coming from the customs of the Bible believers, these things were the fruits of being unequally yoked together with unbelievers and fellowshipping righteousness with unrighteousness and light communing with darkness.

When Jesus was speaking to the woman of Samaria, at Jacobs Well in John 4, he reproved her for her worship of God in the tradition of her fathers’ rather than in Spirit and truth of the scriptures (John 4:22-24). Jesus told the woman that God seeks the worship of men but, he tells her, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

Look at the consequences of the Israelites who mixed paganism within their worship of God in Exodus 32. This is reiterated by Paul in 1 Corinthians 10:1-23 as a warning to us as a common temptation by which even the modern Christian falls into and receives the judgment and displeasure of God. Look at Jeremiah 10:2-4 and see the vanity of the heathen customs Israel was commanded not to learn. Do you not think that in the context of these verses with 1 Corinthians 10:18-22, that the true Christian should consider Christmas as no small matter? Should those Christians who fear to align themselves with the customs of the heathen which have been incorporated by the Roman Catholic Church in this celebration be rejected as uncharitable and legalistic? Should Christmas just be accepted because it has been celebrated in our families for so long. Most of all, should those who do not accept a Christ-mass be rejected as uncharitable and legalistic?

We all agree, whether secular or religious, that Jesus was born into this world. We ask, why then hath not the scriptures revealed to us the day of this account so we could be spared of this controversy, confusion, and even division? The conclusion, to many, and I would include the church of God, is “that because even the true so-called bible believers cannot prove the exact day, we should be charitable enough to allow others to recognize a day of the year to celebrate this most glorious occasion (especially Christians).”

Did not Paul, in Romans allow this liberty? “Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks. For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.” (Romans 14:4-13)

My brethren, these aren’t verses that apply to the Gentiles and their customs and worship of God, this is in reference to the treatment of the novices of the Jewish converts! 1 Corinthians 8-10 and 2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1 deals with the Gentiles and their worship. A verse out of context is usually used because of a “pretext”! It is evident, my beloved, that even if you are willing to take Romans 14 out of context and try to apply it to Gentile converts and their prior religious practices it is in direct contradiction to 1 Corinthians and 2 Corinthians.

If you include the pagan associations and recognize December 25th as Jesus’ birthday, you compromise ALL the verses that the Scriptures command us not to be joined together with unbelievers in their idolatry and ungodly customs and worship; we will STILL NOT have the assurance and peace in knowing that we are pleasing our Saviour in fulfilling his will concerning this worldwide celebration, if we know the truth of its beginnings’ and falsehoods behind it’s motives. This is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE to the revealed will of God in our lives to worship Him in spirit and in truth! “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in TRUTH.” (John 4:24, emphasis mine); “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” (Colossians 3;17, 23).

Has the Lord left us to ourselves to accept or reject this matter of which causes the fruits and spirit of division within the saints to the point where some are accused of “sowing discord” if they choose not to celebrate this “Catholic instituted Holy-day?” Shall we just leave the controversy and admit that because the Lord saw fit not to reveal the birthdate of his son, we should withdraw from it and let every man “do that which is right in his own eyes”?

Is NOT celebrating Christmas more important than: “keeping the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” or causing the division of your family or in some cases even the brake-up of the relationships of spouses? Surely God has in his word something that can be considered that will resolve this issue in the hearts and minds of all those who really only want to know if Christmas is of God. Or, is Christmas just another golden calf that the mixed multitude and the Devil has invented to provoke our God to jealousy? (1 Corinthians 10:18-23)

Let me assure those of you who are troubled with the thoughts and accusations that are made at this time of the year concerning this matter, Brother Baker shares in the same conflicts of mind that you do. I have struggled much with all the “reasoning” and “desires with and of compassion,” to the point sometimes to just vacate the premises, even if it means to withdraw from the fellowship of the saints for a period of time (December) that spirits might be able to dwell in peace on both sides.

Brethren, the more I study the word and observe the fruits of this matter in the church and world, the more I am convinced that it is my duty and obligation to God, to have this issue resolved with him in my heart and spirit that what I am doing is right in the eyes of my God, not in mine or any other man. I don’t care what “opinions” are over this matter. I want God to answer this for my peace of conscience with Him. If Christmas is what pleases Him, I am ready to celebrate!! If HE is not pleased with it, then I will not accept it as long as I live.

The divine purpose of God’s silence ought to be acceptable enough to know his will. To overturn the commandments of which are so plain concerning the saints fellowship with idols and pagan customs to be abominable in both testaments, and knowing he is pleased with the sacrifices of obedience. I cannot with a pure conscience violate his will as revealed by such strong commandments as found in 1 Corinthians 10; 2 Corinthians 6; Jeremiah 10; and John 4:24. Knowing in our hearts that we also are in danger of being seduced by our adversary and his ministers, as we were warned of in 2 Corinthians 11:1-15, some of us will accept the only plausible explanation as revealed in God’s word. Let us reason together about this matter and compare some ‘scripture with scripture’ that might give us some light on this matter.

First, let’s begin at the verses that prophesy of his birth in Isaiah, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his NAME Shall Be Called Wonderful, Counseller, THE MIGHTY GOD, THE EVERLASTING FATHER, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.” (Isaiah 9: 6-7, emphasis mine) Notice how verse 6 is a reference to WHO THIS CHILD IS that is to be born. This child is a real person: “The MIGHTY GOD; the EVERLASTING FATHER; the Prince of Peace” (emphasis is mine).

Let’s go to Exodus 3, when God speaks to Moses out of the burning bush that is not consumed in the wilderness. God has revealed to Moses how he has chosen him to be his deliverer to bring the children of Israel out of Egypt. Moses brings up the argument that the leaders of Israel are going to ask him to identify the NAME OF GOD who told him all these things. Let’s look at the conversation: “And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? And he said, “Certainly I will be with thee, and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, The God of your fathers hast sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, WHAT IS HIS NAME? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.” (Exodus 3:11-15, emphasis mine)

Let’s come to the New Testament book of John, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the WORD WAS GOD. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” (John 1:1-3, emphasis mine)

“AND THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (John 1:14, emphasis mine). “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: And he is before all things, and by Him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.” (Colossians 1:12-18, emphasis mine)

Alright, go to John 8, “Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM. Then took they up stones to cast at him: but, Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.” (John 8:54-59, emphasis mine)

Look at this strange passage in John 18:3-6, “Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons. Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?” They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, “I Am he And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.” No doubt, Jesus of Nazareth is the I AM of Exodus 3!

Also: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? The Jews answered, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.” (John 10:27-38)

“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” (1 Timothy 3:16)

A few more verses and I will sum it up. “Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: YEA, THOUGH WE HAVE KNOWN CHRIST AFTER THE FLESH, YET NOW HENCEFORTH KNOW WE HIM NO MORE. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; TO WIT, THAT GOD WAS IN CHRIST, RECONCILING THE WORLD UNTO HIMSELF, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5:16-21, emphasis mine)

When Jesus identifies himself to John in Revelation, he says, “I AM ALPHA AND OMEGA, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come THE ALMIGHTY.” (Revelation 1:8, emphasis mine)

Catching on yet? Well, let me help, if I can. Jesus Christ was God manifest in the flesh. He accomplished the works for which he was sent, God no longer wants us to remember him after HIS fleshly ministry, but as the coming GLORIFIED SAVIOUR AND OUR GOD. Look again at the appearance of our Lord as John sees him in Heaven, “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, Saying I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth and was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.” (Revelation 1:10-18) This is not the image of Christ in the flesh, this is the image of the glorified Saviour of the world!

The scripture does not reveal to us to celebrate and remember Christ after his birth, but it does reveal what Christ said to remember him by, which is found in Matthew 26 and 1 Corinthians 11, by an ordinance that is printed, not only in the scriptures, but on every communion table in bible believer’s churches, which states, “THIS DO IN REMEMBERANCE OF ME.” True bible believers celebrate the blood, the book, and the blessed hope (Titus 2:11-13; Romans 3 and 10).

I believe that one of the reasons the scriptures do not reveal the actual date of the birth of Christ is the very reason you see what is done by those who invented one (date). Christmas, no doubt, is the most profane and unholy, if not the most ungodly celebration associated with God in this modern world (secular and sacred). But in a scriptural context I believe the reason the date is not given is a great proof text of the divinity of Jesus Christ. For leaving out the birth date is just another strong evidence to reveal that he is God reconciling himself to the world. If we remember Christ, as he wants to be remembered, it will be in the CROSS NOT THE CRIB.

That’s why the Scriptures record that if you are going to remember Christ, it’s not his birthday, because as God manifest in the flesh, HE DOESN’T HAVE ONE! He is the Everlasting FATHER, He is the MIGHTY GOD; He is the ALMIGHTY!! You cannot say HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SOMEONE WHO IS THE ETERNAL I AM!! Trying to celebrate Christ’s birthday is just as logical as celebrating Mary as the mother of God, they are both vanity.

Eternity is mentioned only one time in the Bible; “For thus saith the high and lofty ONE that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” (Isaiah 57:15, emphasis mine) Ever read this? It is a reference to who inhabits eternity!

“If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.” (John 14:7-11; 1 John 5:19-21)

His birth was miraculous, no doubt, but this child is the eternal God come in the flesh. He’s not showing up to initiate a birthday celebration, my beloved, he has something much greater to be emphasized and accomplished by his coming, that being the cross and his resurrection and his coming again! As for the first two days, we are without doubt, the third we wait for even today.

My intent by writing this pamphlet is not to deemphasize the birth of our Lord, brethren, my purpose is to put it in its’ proper emphasis in accordance to its scriptural fulfillment of the prophesies that went before hand in the total scope of the mystery of God that was to be fulfilled in Christ. This marrying of Christ to all the customs of the heathen from the day of his birth to the day of his resurrection, being lorded over and dictated by the Roman Catholic Church is offensive to God and the Holy Scriptures! If no lie is of the truth, and we are to worship God in spirit and truth. How can we in a pure conscience say that celebrating Christmas is acceptable with our Lord and doesn’t grieve the Holy Spirit in the light of:

1. December 25th is most certainly NOT the birthday of our Lord and to say, “well, it’s his conception day,” is just a hypocritical ploy.

2. To accept the “Christmas story” as interpreted by Roman tradition when the scriptures are plain, to contradict is to corrupt the truth. According to the narrative of the story, only the shepherds visited the newborn child when He laid in a manger (Luke 2:16). There were no wise men who visited the newborn child at this time. After the babe was presented to the Lord in the temple (Luke 2:22-24) Joseph and his mother took Him to Nazareth (Luke 2:39). The wise men show up some time later when Jesus is a young child, and they followed a star which led them to a house (Matthew 2:9-11). When they enter the house there is only the child and his mother, no one else. No shepherds, no drummer boy, no reindeer and definitely no Santa Clause as depicted in most modern nativity scenes! Neither is there mention of three kings, but rather three gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

3. What does the Christmas tree, or any of the other Christmas ornaments have to do with Christ birth? Oh, I can give a dozen associating to the tree and ornaments with the heathen celebrations with their gods but where does it in the celebration of Christ birth in true Christianity? To some of the brethren, isn’t it kind of hypocritical to not put up the tree in the church because your heart (conscience) convicts you, and then go home and set up one in your living room! Come on now, if the tree is a symbol of honoring Christ at home, won’t it be in the church and vice versa? But let me ask a question, what does a Christmas tree have to do with the birth of Jesus Christ?

You say, you don’t worship the tree! I’m sure you don’t, but don’t you think the tree doesn’t signify something spiritual or religious? If you say no, then you are rejecting it’s historical and traditional significance. Surely you didn’t just wake up one December and say I think I will chop down a tree and decorate it. No, you started putting a tree up because of custom and tradition in recognition of the supposed birthday of Jesus Christ. Just like everybody else that takes part in the Christmas spirit.

It is my hope, this pamphlet will awaken you to the dangers of a spiritual compromise to the enemies of God and their corruption of the true gospel. Christmas is just one of many devices the Devil uses to pervert the truth away from the Christ of the scriptures to another christ of heathen origin. This perversion causes a total non-effectiveness, or at the least a grave hindrance, to men’s souls whom we have been commissioned by our savior as the apostle Paul was in Acts, “But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which the thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee: Delivering thee from the people and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: but shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.” (Acts 26:16-20)

Is it of the Lord to say that we’re celebrating Christ and at the same time knowing that we are really vexed knowing that it’s commercialization and covetous practices and worldly compromises have overshadowed and confused the truth of the Gospel rather than clarified the purpose of Christ coming?

Why are we wanting to be part of a Catholic instituted Holy Day called Christmas in the first place? We don’t believe in any mass, do we? Not one thing about Christmas is not Catholic oriented, if that be so, (please see any historical references in publication) what in the world are we doing to help the world to find the truth, or does it even matter anymore?

As I said before, his birth was miraculous, no doubt, but his death resurrection and his second coming in glory is his real defining moments that He wants us to remember. Don’t forget the admonition of Paul to the Church, “For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.” (1 Corinthians 11:23-26). If the Lord wants us to remember him by the ordinance of communion as outlined by Paul in these verses, why do we want to celebrate a mass of which the Catholic church calls a communion that never speaks of these verses concerning Christ and his disciples. There is NO mention of Christ’s birth being held as a celebration or ordinance given to the church in any historical reference whatsoever.

The world, flesh and the Devil can manipulate The Christ “Child” into a relationship with All that they want to worship, but you are never going to be able to manipulate the Risen and Glorified Christ who is fixing to return to this earth with His saints to reign with Him for a thousand years. For They that worship Him MUST worship Him in spirit and in truth!
Stick with your bible, my beloved Brothers and Sisters, because it isn’t the Babe that we’ll be standing before at the Judgment. It’s the Risen, Glorified SON OF GOD, “Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.” (2 Corinthians 5:9-12)

Let us take heed to the admonitions of Paul and Peter as they gave the church, with all confidence. First, Paul: “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for we are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the LORD ALMIGHTY. (2 Corinthians 6:14-18, emphasis mine). Sounds like the same ALMIGHTY who spoke to John in Revelation 1:8, doesn’t it? “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” (2 Corinthians 7:1)

Now, Peter: “Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved seeing ye know these things before, beware lest also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” (2 Peter 3:14-18)

God bless you all as we patiently wait upon His Coming, may our lord find us FAITHFUL, brethren! “And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:9-11)

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation have appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for the blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.” (Titus 2:11-15)

In conclusion, let me admonish the true saints one last time. There are two churches that claim to be the true Church of God. Those of the Roman persuasion that represent the god of this world, who is depicted as the mother of harlots and abominations of the earth (Revelation 17). You will notice Rome’s biggest celebration is around a babe in a manger that she uses to promote the two great abominations of which God hates: Covetousness and Idolatry. They are going to celebrate his birth every December 25th. He’s never going to grow up and sit on the throne of David because that would de-throne the Pope and all the other kings of this evil world (Daniel 2).

But, there is another church, the true body of Christ, that celebrates three other occasions in the life of Christ: the day he died for their sins on the cross, the day of his resurrection, and another day that will be more glorious than all – the day he returns in glory with his saints and transforms the rest of us to be partakers of his glory with them (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Philippians 3:17-21; 1 Corinthians 15:35-58).

“And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.” (1 John 5:19-20)
“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” (1 Thessalonians 5:21)

“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
